In December 2009 I saw Dave Weckl play at The Catalina in Hollywood in Los Angeles and had a quick chat with him after the gig. He played well, obviously, but there was something missing in his performance but I couldn’t really tell what it was at the time. Talking to him made me feel like he was sad and completely uninspired.

Today I came across this video clip and I think it speaks for it self, Dave has lost his joy of playing drums and is simply not as fun to watch is he was in his younger days. Or is this just my impression? Maybe he just had bad year when I met him and when this video was filmed and he now is back to normal?

He is playing tonight at Ronnie’s in London btw…

This is the first video I will post here. It is something I recorded it two years ago but I still like the lick. It is a typicall linear drum fill and it can be used in many different ways if you orchestrate on the kit.
